The winner of the September-October cycle of Pioneer DJ Network is the mind boggling leftfield disco antics of the Sequencers, from Mexico! So many great entries this time around, but this one showcased a selection with great personality, music which had us thinking that it could also really benefit from the DJM-2000 hands on approach to mixing and mashing.
We have us another winner! Set to perform at the Above & Beyond Brixton Academy show, getting himself all sorts of goodies, champagne and guest list slots, is DJ Zak Quiney!
Another $7500 worth of DJ Mag advertising right where we want it: with one of our Premium members! Meet Matt Elation, a melodic tech house DJ on the rise in Germany, We caught up with Matt for an interview just before he was off for a Munich weekend gig. The full page interview can be read in the next issue of DJ Mag. In addition, a nice e-blast will reach subscribers of DJ Mag Weekly.
Let’s Mix wants to wish the talented Mr Young good luck at ADE! We took the chance for a quick mini interview with the ADE Next artist hunt grand prize winner.
Tell us two things about yourself which are also important facets of your music making.
Spontaneity is very important for me, I like to go into a studio with an open mind.
I never know in advance exactly what I’m going to produce, and my productions mostly depend on what kind of mood I am in. In addition, for me quality is of great importance.
I like productions that are well constructed, this helps to give a track a certain feeling.
So much going on for the Netherlands. As if soccer and Dutch house weren’t such dominant forces in Europe, you also have the ADE festival (and yourself)! Any thoughts on that?
The Netherlands are not only bursting with talent, many established artists are also from the Netherlands. The ADE is a great opportunity for these two groups to meet and to meet a lot of important people in the dance scene like bookers, promoters and so on.
Everybody who works in the dance scene is present, so it’s a perfect place to network.
It’s also a great stage for the big DJs. For example, during the ADE I have the chance to see all the great DJs playing and due to the character of the ADE I sometimes can even have a nice conversation with them.
What can we expect from your set at ADE? A lot of live programming?
The last few months I spent a lot of time in the studio. I have many new productions and I also made some great collaborations with a friend of mine, Pieter Steijger. So expect my set at ADE will be filled with brand new productions.
Don’t forget to join in on the current round of Raw Talent. Just ten votes to qualify, and a nice little piece of publishing up for grabs if you pull through. You have until October 25th!
