Avid readers of this blog know that we have a soft spot for Lisa Milberg, singer/songwriter and frontwoman of indie-piece The Concretes. We’ve featured Lisa’s mixtapes, always filled to the brim with sweet vocals and heavenly synth and guitar harmonics, before. Now she’s back with more “hits new and old, mostly old” – Nina Simone’s folksy reggae classic Baltimore, sea-breeze pop from John Forde and some laidback loveliness from Ariel Pink, just to name a few.
Later this summer, UK’s premier inner city dance festival South West Four is set to take things to that famous next level. This time around, South West Four launches the first ever South West Four Weekender on August 28th-29th. The line-up for the Clapham, London-based festival reads like a who’s who of the world’s biggest DJ:s: Sasha, Dubfire, Erick Morillo, Carl Cox, A-Trak, Dirty South, Joris Voorn, M.A.N.D.Y. and Adam Beyer – they’re all there.
Leading up to this great event, Let’s mix will feature mixes from DJs on the festival billing. Starting out is star DJ and Radio 1 personality Kissy Sell Out with a smashing electro on the rocks set!
This boxfresh mix is one of our favourites so far in the We Love…Space competition, and testament to the same. It features Adeline’s spanking new track Would You and a bunch of other summery bits of percussive, vocal, techy house from acts like Ost & Kjex and Marek Hemann & Fabian Reichelt. Nice one.
Alé le teknival is a nice Italian blog which regularly supplies the global mass of neon-fronting hipster kids with the latest electrotized club music. The mix below, made exclusively by Turin three-piece Peacemakers!, is no exception. Klaxons, MSTRKRFT and Vandalism all get the electro treatment. Go bonkers and nu-rave babaaaay!!!
Ellen Allien needs no introduction. In this excellent mix hosted by R.fm, the BPitch Control head honco and Berlin techno queen drops rhythms a bit more on the house side of things: Smash TV:s repetetive deep house and Shit Robot’s old school Chicago vibes, just to nama a few. It’s still Ellen-minimal though – and still freaking awesome.
