MaliBoom Boom DJ Battle: Denmark and Sweden face-off in over several bottles of rum.

If you ever been to Scandinavia, you’ve probably learned that the rivalry between Denmark and Sweden goes very deep and waaaaay back. Football pitches have been invaded, multiple wars fought and a lot of tax-free beer have passed over the bridge of Oresund.

The latest clash between Denmark and Sweden is not over beer, though. Instead, this Dano-Swedish battle centers about the Carribean drink of choice: Rum. Invited by Malibu Rum, a dozen of Scandinavia’s young DJ talents face-off in the MaliBoom Boom DJ Battle.

Each DJ presents a mix on the theme of summer, sun and astonishingly good vibes. Then it’s up to you, the listener, to decide who’s got the most mojo. The battle runs until May 13th, and starting this week, we’ll present the competing mixes in three posts. Check out the first four mixes below – and go to the MaliBoom Boom DJ Battle Facebook page to cast your vote!

Breaking news: Pioneer and Let’s mix launch social and musical contest platform Pioneer DJ Network

With over fifteen years of CDJ history, Pioneer launches the Pioneer DJ Network – a mix publishing channel aimed at encouraging and displaying new DJ talent alongside the Pioneer ProDJ brand and products. Pioneer DJ Network is a celebration of the years of mutual exchange between DJs, the DJ’s brand, and their common produce: club music and culture.

Pioneer DJ Network is a social, musical and competitive event open to all users and fans of Pioneer ProDJ products. The Pioneer DJ Network is hosted on Letsmix.com, a music streaming platform for the discovery and promotion of DJs. Through monthly talent contests, the initiative aims at awarding prizes to its members, who in turn share their sounds while emblazoning their profiles and mix players with the Pioneer ProDJ brand. Get in on the competition here.

DJing has matured to the point that a music CD alone may not fulfil the needs of the professional DJ. With the rekordbox™ software, Pioneer ProDJ delivers on the concept of “Prepare & Perform” – organizing cue points, loops and playlists, closely integrated to the industry standard Pioneer hardware used in performance.

In addition to the “Prepare & Perform” concept, the Pioneer DJ Network brings the ability to “Promote” – documenting the DJ’s output, while furthering his or her endeavours by offering different gear and career opportunities each month.

Joining and uploading to the Pioneer DJ Network is easy. Not only does it put your mix in the midst of the fastest growing DJ mix platform on the web, but it also puts you in competition for the latest in Pioneer DJ gear, and the possibility of being picked to spin at exclusive events. If you DJ, and keep a fresh mix around, there really isn’t any reason not to join!

Mix of the day: Michael Mayer goes On & On & On & On & On…

michael_mayer2

We’re fond of saying that ”so and so needs no introduction…” here on the blog. And, hey, not that we want to look like repetetive old farts but Michael Mayer definitely needs no introduction. As the founder of Kompakt and one of Germany’s most acclaimed techno and tech house producers, he’s one of the seminal figures on the noughties European techno scene.

On May 1st, he joins Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Sasha, Carl Craig and a bunch of other techno and house luminaries at Fabric London for the 30 hour, non-stop On & On & On & On & On party. This thundering promo mix gives you a taste of what to come.

Mix of the day: Kingdom bridges the gap between Brooklyn and London

Kingdom is a favourite at the Let’s mix office. Releasing on Fool’s Gold, this Brooklyn based DJ and producer’s taste in dubstep and UK funky is flawless – and his latest promo mix is no different.

Featuring minimal dubstep from UK producers like Cooly G and Roska, and Kingdom’s own excellent remixes in the same vein, this is 45 minutes of the freshest Britannics out there. Brooklyn has never sounded closer to London.

Mix of the day: A Mountain of One’s Mo Morris goes Animal in celebrating new party

amountainofoen

A Mountain of One has been defying genre-descriptions since releasing their stunning debut single Ride back in 2006. Let’s settle for Pitchfork’s take: “Swirling Balearic rock infused with the earnest pomp of Mike and the Mechanics.” The London based outfit’s production master Mo Morris – that would be the man wearing a Tutankhamun mask above – is also a versatile DJ in the fields of disco, cosmic electronics and generally degenerated rock.

Tonight Mo gets behind the decks at Animal at East London club The Drop, joined by the infamous Thomas Bullock from Rub N Tug and Nathan Gregory Wilkins from History Clock. Mo Morris’ excellent Animal promo mix ranges from fuzzy disco to weird 80’s pop electronics, and if it’s anything to go by, Animal will be a genre-defying night indeed.
