Dutch dance phenomenon Mason
blew up with the electro house track Exceeder a couple of years ago. Since then, Mason have been busy producing a debut album and dj:ing on the Pacemaker device, which was used when recording the recent mix album The Amsterdam Tapes – and of course also for the new, exclusive mix on Pacemaker.net. We caught up with what turned out to be half of Mason.
Hey there! Mason is actually two guys, right?
– Yup, it’s Coen and me, Iason. We both have similar backgrounds in music and technology. Coen is a singer and played in all kinds of rock bands, while I’m the dj and also a violin player. We’re both tech geeks addicted to analogue synths, which are used on pretty much all of our tracks.
You mentioned you have classic violin training, which is something that seems to go well together with pumping disco productions? In the past there have been guys like Arthur Russell, a classically trained cellist who wrote and produced legendary club tracks like Loose Joints Is it all over my face and Dinosaur L:s Go bang…
– I think so. And the possibilities are a lot bigger with electric violins, as you can make it sound like a electric guitar or a synth if you like. I even used to bring along an electric violin during my dj sets, but right now my focus is on the electronic side of music.
