Interview: Mason

Dutch dance phenomenon Masonmason blew up with the electro house track Exceeder a couple of years ago. Since then, Mason have been busy producing a debut album and dj:ing on the Pacemaker device, which was used when recording the recent mix album The Amsterdam Tapes – and of course also for the new, exclusive mix on Pacemaker.net. We caught up with what turned out to be half of Mason.

Hey there! Mason is actually two guys, right?
– Yup, it’s Coen and me, Iason. We both have similar backgrounds in music and technology. Coen is a singer and played in all kinds of rock bands, while I’m the dj and also a violin player. We’re both tech geeks addicted to analogue synths, which are used on pretty much all of our tracks.

You mentioned you have classic violin training, which is something that seems to go well together with pumping disco productions? In the past there have been guys like Arthur Russell, a classically trained cellist who wrote and produced legendary club tracks like Loose Joints Is it all over my face and Dinosaur L:s Go bang…
– I think so. And the possibilities are a lot bigger with electric violins, as you can make it sound like a electric guitar or a synth if you like. I even used to bring along an electric violin during my dj sets, but right now my focus is on the electronic side of music.

Interview: Boeoes Kaelstigen

max-adolfsson_9607Swedish techno duo Boeoes Kaelstigenstunned us with a pounding set on their Pacemakers at the Swedish Grammy Awards recently – on request, they provided us with a condensed mix of their current favourites, exclusively available here. We caught them on the run for a quick chat.

What are you looking for in the music you play in your sets right now?
– Our taste is, arguably, quite eclectic. Probably a result of us always going for the gut feeling. And our guts really like oscillators, tons of tarnce reverb and micro rhythms.

You have released a string of great EP:s on Adrian Recordings and Koloni. Are you planning an Boeoes Kaelstigen album in 2009?
– There’s a thick fog of secrecy over our album plans right now, but we’ve got lot’s of box fresh material waiting to reach the ears of the internets. This year’s output from the Boeoes Kaelstigen shuffle- n-pling factory will include music for Japanese cars, socks (yes, the kind you wear on your feet) and continued scoring of slightly too optimistic industrial projects.
